IdaBelle Farrow Isaacs

AGE: 100 • Milford

"Be of good cheer!" And she was.

IdaBelle Farrow Isaacs, of 100 years, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Westminster Village in Dover. IdaBelle was born in Georgetown on March 10, 1914 to Deborah Abbott Farrow and Oliver T. Farrow. After her graduation in 1932 from Georgetown High, she entered the nursing program at the Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia and three years later received her Registered Nurse's Degree and accepted a position as a public health nurse in Sussex County where she remained for four years. In 1940, she married Edgar Franklin Isaacs, Jr., a Delaware State Policeman for twenty years and later a financial advisor with Laird, Bissell & Meads and Dean Witter in Dover. They made their home in Milford where she resided as a full time homemaker until moving to Westminster Village in Dover in 2001. IdaBelle was a lifelong member of Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford and a long time member of the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling but was always happy to return to her home on Haven Lake. Often remarking that her obituary would be short, she will long be remembered with great love by her family and many friends who were beneficiaries of her generous heart and a home that was always open to them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar "Eddie" F. Isaacs, Jr. in 1975; her brother, Oliver W. Farrow; two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, one niece, and two nephews. IdaBelle is survived by her two daughters, Deborah I. Armistead and her husband, John G., III, Elaine I. Townsend and her husband Sherman L., all of Dover; grandchildren, D. Ashton Armistead and her friend John P. Hartnell of Richmond, VA, J. Grant Armistead, IV and his wife Ashley of Charlotte, NC, Elise L. Townsend of Boston, MA, and D. Reid Townsend and his wife Ann of Linthicum, MD; great-grandchildren, J. Grant Armistead, V, Connor B. Armistead, Catherine B. Townsend, Reagan L. Townsend; step-great-grandchildren, Jessica and Bryanna Rupprecht; a sister-in-law, and eight nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be held privately. In IdaBelle's memory, and in lieu of flowers, her family suggests fulfilling an act of kindness that would honor her spirit or contributing to .
