Adele Kanter Luck passed away July 31, 2014, at Cokesbury Village Health Center in Hockessin, after a long illness.
Born in Detroit to banker Charles A. Kanter and his wife Margaret, Adele attended the Leggett School for primary education, Detroit Public High Schools, and the University of Vermont. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Wayne State University, and completed graduate work at Michigan State University.
Adele was a Red Cross volunteer and a lifelong advocate for the disabled and elderly. She was a lifelong member of Sigma Gamma Association, a service sorority which supports the Detroit Institute for Children Care and the Detroit Orthopaedic Clinic. She enjoyed travel and rarely missed a trick at bridge. Adele loved music and was a strong supporter of performing arts.
Her husband of 63 years, David Johnston Luck, passed away at Cokesbury in 2005. Adele was also predeceased by three siblings: Elizabeth Reeves, Gretchen Murray and Henry Kanter. Her youngest sister, Sarah, passed away on August 3, 2014. She is survived by three sons: Charles of Port Deposit, MD; David of Equality, AL; and Edward of Briarcliff Manor, NY. She is also survived by three daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Cokesbury on Sunday, August 17th at 1:30.
