Obituary Condolences

Mary E. (Sard) DiCampli

AGE: 88 • Wilmington

Mary E. DiCampli, age 88, of Wilmington, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Easton, MD on Oct. 16, 1925, daughter of the late Edgar and Mable (Talley) Sard, and moved to Delaware in 1943 to attend Goldey Beacom College. She met her husband and was married in 1944. Together they built their home from the ground up and raised their four children there. This is the home Mary passed away in. She had always said they had $50 and a shovel. Mary was a wife and homemaker until 1957, when she went to work for Blue Cross of Delaware for 11 years. Wanting to be home with her children, she opened her day care which was called Mary's Little Lambs. She continued that for five years until she and her husband joined the Amway Corporation where they later became Direct Distributors. She continued the business for 40 years. Mary was very active in her community and fought, along with her neighbors, to keep Chessie Railroad out of their community. She later ran for State Senator in her district. There are too many things to try and describe our mother, but there was one thing that was always first, and that was her family. That was her number one devotion.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin DiCampli; son, Benjamin DiCampli; son-in-law, Robert Mackinder; and 5 siblings. She is survived by her children, Barbara Jones Mackinder, Joyce Keeney (Mike), and Joseph DiCampli; daughter-in-law, Kim DiCampli; grandchildren, Sherri Rapposelli (William), Dennis DiCampli (Rebekah), Joseph Jones (Margie), Daniel DiCampli (Lauren), Michael Keeney, Amanda Keeney, Ryan Jones, Stephen DiCampli (Katie), Monica Psolka, Melissa DiCampli, and Christopher DiCampli (Elysa); 14 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Clara Cusack; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Saturday morning, Aug. 9 at 10:30am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, on Friday evening, August 8 from 6-8pm. No visitation will be held on Saturday morning prior to mass.
