Madeleine K. Coon Obituary
Madeleine K. Coon

AGE: 88 • Wilmington

Madeleine ( Judy ) Kaiser Coon passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 7, 2014.

Judy was born in Orange, New Jersey, the eldest child of the late Richard A. Kaiser and the late Madeleine K. Kaiser.

As a result of her father's company transfers, she was raised in Orange, NJ, Baltimore, MD and Wilmington, DE where she settled for her lifetime. Judy attended Ursuline Academy and the College of Notre Dame where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation she was hired by The People's Settlement House.

On Valentine's Day 1947,she met her husband, Bill Coon. They married in November, 1948, a marriage that continued for 65 and a half years. Together they raised 8 children. Judy was very involved in church and community activities. She helped organize the CYO's at St. Mary Magdalen's and St Joseph on the Brandywine. She was a member of the Junior League of Wilmington and a very active bridge group.

Judy eventually returned to the workforce employed by the Family Court of Delaware where she remained until her retirement. Judy loved spending time in the sun and could be found most summers at the Jersey Shore. Judy could play the piano and shared that talent to the enjoyment of all. She had a great passion for life and every creature of nature, especially the birds, but her greatest love was her family. She loved being a wife and mother with an energy that left most in awe. Judy will be remembered for her gorgeous smile, kind and generous spirit and the way she welcomed everyone into her home.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Richard A. Kaiser and Madeleine K. Kaiser, her brother, Richard A. Kaiser, Jr., and her sisters, Mary K. Meehan and Elizabeth J. Drazek. She is survived by her husband William R. Coon, her 8 children; M. Michelle ( Roland ) Lintner, Madeleine C. ( Decker ) Uhlhorn, Maureen C. Redwine, William R. ( Gale Ferranto ) Coon, James F. ( Stephanie ) Coon, John P. ( Natalie Chopey) Coon, Richard K. Coon, and Michael R. Coon, and 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gilpin Hall for their compassion and excellent care during her final years, and Delaware Hospice for their caring presence and thoughtfulness through her end of life process.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 14,2014 at 10:30 AM at St Joseph's on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville.
