Frances Britton Vanaman Hughes, beloved wife, the best mom ever, sister, and grandmom passed away peacefully on August 14, 2014 with family by her side. She was 90 years young.
Frances and her late husband, John, spent many years traveling and enjoying time with their family. She worked for Thomas McKean High School as a baker for 20 years and was president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 21 for 26 years.
Survivors include her "favorite" son, John, Jr. and wife, Brenda; daughters, H. Louise Altvater and her four-legged children and Sherrill and husband, Lamar Quickle, Sr.; brother, Ridgely Vanaman and wife Helen Kaye of AZ; parakeet, Pedee; and a host of grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John, to whom she was married for 58 years; parents, Edith and Lawrence Vanaman; brother, Herbert; and sister, Helen.
Our family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Heartland Hospice for the amazing care they gave Frances during her illness and the support they provided to the family. We especially thank Stephanie, Judy, and Joan for their gentle and loving care. We would also like to thank Dr. Poorwa Kenkre for the compassionate care she provided Frances for many years.
Frances' wishes are being honored by not having a service and the burial will be private.
