AGE: 82 • Pike Creek

Owen Owen, 82, of Pike Creek, DE passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in Milford, DE on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Owen was born in South Wales, the son of the late William Henry and Annie Jane (Thomas) Owen. Owen immigrated to the United States in 1948 at the age of 14. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an electrician at the DuPont Chestnut Run Plant in Wilmington for 28 years before retiring in 1992. Owen was an avid runner and would get up at 4:30 am every morning to be able to get his run in prior to leaving for work. His training prepared him for running in many marathons over the years throughout the United States, including Hawaii. He was a member of the Pike Creek Running Club, and a participant in the Delaware Senior Olympics. He loved playing golf with friends as well as bowling in the GEMS League at Pleasant Hills Bowling Lanes and at Blue Hen Lanes, where he bowled for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Eric Owen.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Margaret C. (Taney) Owen; one daughter Peggy Yaeger (John) of Milford; one son Gary Owen (Lee) of Middletown; 7 grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 - 8 pm on Thursday evening, July 7, 2016 at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway (Duncan Road), Wilmington where funeral services will be held at 8 pm. Committal with military honors will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 8 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to either Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Delaware Senior Olympics, 1121 Forrest Avenue, Dover, DE 19904. I like to think how happy Wayne will be to see his dear friend Ownen again in heaven. We both thought a lot of 0wen and Peg even though we have not seen them for a while, since moving to Florida. I hope Peg and her children are doing well during these difficult time.
