Randi Hearn Obituary

Randi Lee Hearn

Age 56, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her residence. She was born on September 16, 1954 to Luther M. and Patricia A. Hearn in Wilmington, DE.

Randi was a 1972 graduate of Brandywine High School where she was captain of the cheerleading squad her senior year and was also a Blue-Gold All-Star cheerleader. Randi graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Food Nutrition. After college, she spent time working in California with her cousins Cheryl Wagner McDonald and Lynn Wagner Wendelberger. She later moved back to Wilmington, where she worked at Riverside Hospital as a food nutritionist.

She moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1980 and ran the Country Squire Restaurant with her brother Chip and their father Luther for many years. In 1985, Chip purchased The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach and Randi managed it with Chip and Luther until its sale in 1999 to its present owners. Since then, she was the general manager of Peppers her family's spicy items store in the Midway Galleria in Rehoboth Beach. Chip, Luther and Randi came up with the concept for Peppers while on vacation in Jamaica many years ago when they discovered the great variety of hot sauces available there and sampled dozens of them at great risk to their blood pressure rates.

Randi loved to travel, especially to warm and sunny places. Annual vacations with family and friends on the island of Providenciales in the Caribbean were a special joy.

Randi was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia "Trish" Hearn. She is survived by her father, Luther M. Hearn and her step-mother, Jane Hearn; brother, Luther "Chip" M. Hearn III; sisters, Tracey (Joseph) Alvarez and Alison Bailey; step-sisters Cherri (Erik) Perschmann and Emily Boyle; and stepbrother, Guy Wesson. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles and by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and to whom she was "the fun aunt," because of her inventive and unpredictable sense of humor. She also will be missed by her faithful canine companion of many years, Pepper.

The family sends sincere thanks to Delaware Hospice and caregivers June Hall and Corinna Ziobrowski for their excellent, loving care of Randi.

Funeral Services will be held on Wed. April 13, at 11 am, at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway. Lewes, DE. Burial will follow the service at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach, DE. A Memorial Reception will be held at 5 pm, on Wed., April 13, at the Starboard Restaurant 2009 Highway 1, Dewey Beach, DE. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Randi loved the sun, the beach, and worked hard all year to have the "winter" off to get to Providenciales, where we would have a chance to be with her. She loved life and she will be missed.

Randi hired me at the Starboard when I was a teenager and I ended up working there for nearly 10 years and it changed my life. I'll always have a place in my heart for Randi and the Hearn family for the opportunity they gave me (and for putting up with me). My condolences to Chip and Luther and the whole Hearn family.

Randi and I were at BHS together. She was the "rah-rah" and I was the jockette! When in Rehoboth Beach we would run into eachother periodically. I think the last time I saw Randi was in Dewey Beach. She will be missed by all who knew her. My regards to all in her loving family.
