James H. "Gator" Gatewood III

Age 71, of Oxford, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 25, 2012.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Georgianna E. Edwards Gatewood. He was born in Upland, PA the son of the late James H. Jr and Emma Frances Hill Gatewood. Jim was a devoted member of the Community Bible Fellowship, Broad Street Oxford, PA, donating much of his love and time to the church and his Lord as a strong Christian. Jim is a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard serving in the early 60's, a member of Masonic Lodge # 477 of Westfield, PA and a Journeyman Plumber for 45 years, retiring from Breeding and Day Mechanical in 2008. He was a dedicated father and gave much of his time for his children participating in scouts and also serving as scoutmaster for many years for Troop 50 Of Westfield, PA and also as a football coach at Cowanesque Valley, Westfield, PA.

Jim loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was an original member of the Hoop 'n Hollow hunting camp in Potter County, PA. He loved football and was a die hard Green Bay Packers Fan, liking to joke that "he has been a follower of Green Bay since they were just cottage cheese". He loved to read novels, especially westerns.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his 2 sons, Jim Gatewood and wife Michele of Lincoln University, PA and Doug Gatewood and wife Sherri of Knoxville, PA, grandsons, Brandon, Dustin, Andrew and Devin and great grandsons, Carter, Lennon and Braydon, brother, Albert Gatewood and wife Bonnie of Leland, NC and sisters, Frances Hampshire Gore and husband Donald of Sicklerville, NJ and Mary Lou Gatewood of Somers Point, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday January 28, from 10-11 am, at the Ruffenach Family Funeral Home 224 Penn Avenue Oxford, PA 19363, followed by his Life Celebration Service at 11 am. Interment will be in the New London Methodist Church Cemetery 1010 State Road New London, PA 19360.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's name to John Hopkins Hospital, Pancreatic Center, Department of Radiation, Oncology & Molecular Radiation Science, 401 North Broadway, Suite 1440 Baltmore, MD 21231-2410.
