Clarence E. "Army" Armstrong, Jr.

Age 87, of Townsend, DE died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born March 5, 1925 in Chestertown, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence E. Armstrong, Sr., and Carrie McAbee Armstrong.

After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1943 he served as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy in the Armed Guard during World War II. His interest in the Navy continued throughout his life by attending numerous Armed Guard Reunions. He obtained his private pilot's license before retirement from Schmidt's Baking Company after 46 years of service and loved performing Aerobatics. He enjoyed the remaining years of his retirement taking care of his horses on a small farm in Townsend along with making trips to Texas to "let loose" like a much younger man.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma; his sons, Buck Armstrong (Betty) and Ken Armstrong (Anita); his daughters, Karen West (Jeff), Sharon Shaw (Ray) and Sue Fellows (Howard), 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 from1:00-2:00 p.m.; followed by a Service in celebration of Army's life at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the to the U.S. Navy Armed Guard WWII Veterans Association, 115 Wall Creek Drive, Rolesville N.C. 27571.
