Alexander Kamara Obituary

January 7, 1996 - July 8, 2012

Alexander Kamara (Junior), our youngest brother could be described in ten words. He was Ambitious, Compassionate, Disciplined, Generous, Gentle, Honest, Loving, Organized, and Quiet Respectful. He may have genetically inherited part of these traits from our lovely parents. Father Alexander Martin Kamara Sr. and mother Renah Kamara. Both parents originally came from a small country called Sierra Leone from the west coast of West Africa.

Alexander was born at St. Luke's hospital in Manhattan, New York City January 7, 1996. He died July 8, 2012 at 8:23 P.M. at Christiana Hospital here in Delaware. He was 16 years old. Raising children in New York City is a herculean task and so our parents decided to move to Philadelphia briefly and 16 years ago, our family settled here in Delaware where life is quieter and the atmosphere is best suited for us to have as "all-round development in education."

Alexander commonly known as Alex was an eleventh grade "A" student at A I Du Pont High School. His classmates admired him and took him as a good role model in school always willing to work hard and known to speak the truth. He played soccer, basketball, wrestled, and was in the marching band.

He was proud about his school and his self-esteem was high. Alex told our father that he would one day play soccer for his country (United States) against any European, Southern American country or African country particularly Sierra Leone, if Sierra Leone or any country from any part of the world is to qualify for the world cup soccer against the United States and would make sure his country, United States wins and be Number One. On Sunday July 8, he was on the side lines of the soccer tournament at Eden Park, watching a soccer game and patiently waiting in the field for his own match to begin when a fugitive with a criminal record shot him. Members of the crowd produced guns and both sides began exchanging gunfire and innocent Alex was killed by a single gunshot. Rushed to the hospital, doctors tried to save him, but unfortunately lost him. According to our family, Alex's death is a complete absurdity. It is lamentable, regrettable, unbearable, unpardonable and atrocious. Our brother Alex was a boy like all other boys and yet perfect among boys. He is deeply missed by our family and all people who knew him.

"Happiness is not something you have in your hands, it is something you carry in your heart." Alex was always happy with our immediate neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Bazan and family, The Gardeners, The Kalskalas and The Kananes had a tremendous impact on our brother's happiness. These four families especially Vladimir and Nina took Alex as their child and our brother told us clearly that, that was his second home. He was very happy with them.

He is the last son in our family of 4 sisters and two brothers:- Florence Moore, Eleanor, Jonathan, Ya-Kaday, Marina and James Kamara who is in Sierra Leone ready to join the family soon. Other members of our noble Kamara family include, The Koromas, the Kai-Kais, the Massaquois, the Kanyakos from Pujuhun and Bo Districts and the Contehs, the Turays, the Koromas, the Kanus and the Gblas and the Hallowells from the heart of Sierra Leone, Tonkolili District. Our brother Alexander Kamara (Jr) has a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and friends in the U.S., London and Sierra Leone.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington. Calling hours will begin after 9:30 AM at church. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alexander Kamara Fund at any WSFS Bank.

My deepest sympathies to Alex's family . I have known him since 6th grade at Stanton and went to A.I highschool with him . He was a great friend ,someone you could always talk to and could count on to make you laugh. He never took things too serious and always just went with the flow and had fun. He was one of my closest guy friends and I'll always cherish our memories . It just makes me realize that anything can happen in the blink of an eye , and you cant take life or anyone for granted . My condolences to the family . Stay strong. He will be sadly missed .
