Joseph Gaughan

Joseph Gaughan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on July 23, 2012. He was born in Lincoln, NE on June 12. 1943.

Joe devoted his professional life to education beginning as a special education teacher and retiring as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Omaha, NE. After retiring and moving to Wilmington, DE, Joe continued his dedication to education by becoming an adjunct professor at Wilmington University.

In retirement, Joe treasured his time with his family, especially his grandchildren, playing golf and following the Yankees and Nebraska football. Papa Joe will be missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole; his sister, Sally Waddle of Lincoln, NE; three sons and their spouses, Jason and Susan, Ryan and Jamie, Dylan and Jennifer, and 6 grandchildren; Liam, Nathan, Griffin, Violet, Campbell and Julian.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The First Tee, 425 South Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092, www.thefirsttee.com. This is an organization that introduces the game of golf and its inherent values to young people.

A Memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, July 27 at 11 am at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, where family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 am. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
