Walter J. Kern III "Walt"

Age 52, of Middletown, DE, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Walt was the son of the late Walter J. Kern Jr. and Jeanette Pancoast Kern.
Walt graduated from Woodstown High School in 1978. While at Woodstown, Walt excelled in football and continued his love for the sport by playing at Widener University, where he graduated in 1982 with a degree in Accounting. At Widener, Walt was also a proud member and treasurer of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
In recent years, Walt devoted much of his time to the sport of lacrosse. Through Middletown Youth Lacrosse Club, he and his wife brought many boys and girls together onto the lacrosse field. With his dedication to the sport, Walt has coached over one hundred boys who have gone on to play for eighteen different high schools in Delaware and Maryland.
Walt also enjoyed watching his three children play sports. In addition, Walt loved spending time on the boat and at the shore with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, Walt is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pam (nee Gardner); his children Thomas, Alison, and Ryan; his sisters Cathy, Karen, and Jeannie; and his brothers Michael, Frank, and Eric; as well as many nieces and nephews. Walt will be missed but never forgotten.
Friends may visit with Walt's family on Tuesday evening, November 20 from 7-9 pm at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 am on Wednesday, November 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown. Interment will follow in Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Middletown Youth Lacrosse Club, 138 Lahinch Court, Middletown, DE 19709.
