Joseph Hypes Obituary

Joseph P. Hypes, Sr.

Mr. Joseph P. Hypes, Sr., age 42, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Newark, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

A native Delawarean, Joe was born in Wilmington on July 23, 1970, and was a graduate of Glasgow High School. He made his professional career with W.L. Gore and Associates, where he was employed as a packaging operator in the production division. Active in his community, he was a member of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company.

Joe was an avid hunter throughout his life, with waterfowl and deer being his favorite sportsman's challenge. He particularly enjoyed hunting trips with his son and his father-in-law. An expert marksman, he was very knowledgeable about firearms and often attended gun shows to search for unique and interesting pieces for his collection.

A dedicated family man, Joe devoted his life to caring for his precious son and daughter, whom he adored. He was also very proud of being a cancer survivor and of his hard-fought battle against the disease.

A loving husband, son, father, brother, grandson, and friend, Joe will be deeply and sadly missed by the many people who loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Sandra M. Wilson-Hypes; children, Joseph P. Hypes, Jr. and Olivia J. Hypes; mother, Donna M. Fernandez of Bear; father, Bernard C. Hypes of North East, MD; brother, Budd Hypes of Newark; grandmother, Helen Hypes of North East, MD; and mother- and father-in-law, Joan and Jack Wilson of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard C. Hypes III.

Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joe may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th Street, Ste. 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.

I worked with Joe at AstraZeneca, we were on the ERT team together, and he was such an inspiration and a mentor to me on the team. He was always smiling, willing to listen and ready to help. He will be sadly missed. I pray to God to bless his family through this difficult time. R.I.P brother !

Dear Donna and Family,
Joe's life was a gift to you, but also to those who knew him. His kindness, laughter, and his willingness to help others were truly a Blessing to many. Joe never waited for people to be friendly, he use to show them how to be friendly!
We often underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, or a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all of which Joe so openly shared with others. Every action in our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate through eternity just as Joe's Will.
There are two ways of spreading light, to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. What Joe has shared with others and the world will always remain immortal. Thousands of candles can be lighted from his single candle.
Those we love are always with us. Their laughter, their smile, their kindness, and thoughfulness are gifts of love that are ours to keep. May the gifts you received from Joe help console you now and fill your heart with memories that will always help comfort you in knowing that he is safe in our Father's loving arms. 1st John 2:25
With my Deepest Sympathy for your loss and lifting you up in prayer
