Michael Franco Buono

Michael Buono of Wilmington, DE, died suddenly Thursday, January 10, 2013, at St Francis Hospital.

He was born in Wilmington, DE to Olga (Udeatzky) and the late Salvatore Buono, graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and attended Johnson & Wales University.

Michael was well-known in the restaurant community. His family owned Sal's Place, where he grew up learning the business from his Dad. Michael expanded Sal's into a successful martini & cigar bar in the late 90's, owned the Cuban restaurant Mojo in Dewey Beach, and was currently working at Moro in Wilmington.

Michael loved the beach, watching sports, good food, good wine and a good joke. He will always be remembered for his generosity, and his ability to make you comfortable with a great meal or a great story.

He is survived by his mother Olga, his sisters Stephanie Annand-Kemp (Bill) and Debby Annand-Harvey (Tom). He was always "Zio" to his cherished nieces and nephews Quinn, Finley, Peyton and Aidan, having shared countless adventures and laughs over the years. He is also survived by a large, loving extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many, many friends.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 15, from 9 am - 12 noon at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 pm at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd. (at Concord Pike) Wilmington, DE 19803.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Michaels name to any culinary school or the Delaware Food Bank, 14 Garfield Way, Newark , DE 19713.
