Albert J. dePolo, age 92 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at Sunrise Assisted Living on February 10, 2013.
Albert was born in Wilmington in 1920 to proud parents, Remigio and Natalina Costella dePolo, immigrants from Northern Italy.
He was a graduate of Wilmington High School where he starred as halfback on the football team. He was captain of the 1937 and 1938 teams. Albert served honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII (1941 - 1945).
He married the love of his life, Pauline Julian, in 1944. They were married 61 years. Albert worked as a plumber from 1945 to 1955 for Angelo A. Julian Plumbing and Heating. He then worked for Miller Brothers Furniture as a salesman and later as manager from 1955 to 1987. After retirement, he spent six wonderful years working for his son, Robert dePolo, owner of Alde Masonry, Inc. Albert was an avid hunter and gardener.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bruno and Charles dePolo, sister Lucy Bertossi and his wife, Pauline J. dePolo. Survivors include his children, Carol Wright (John) of Hockessin, Paula Ritchings (William) of Newark, Nina Lawless (Stephen) of Hockessin and Robert J. dePolo (Brenda) of Wilmington and sister-in-law, Louise J. Bair. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and 1 nephew. He was a wonderful husband and father to his wife and children.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday February 16, 2013 at St. Helena's Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Family and friends may visit with the family at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOMES, 2506 Concord Pike on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Entombment will follow the Mass in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809.
