Leonard E. Hayward II, age 78, of Wilmington, DE, died on February 22, 2013. Len was raised in Wilmington and New Jersey. He married his high school sweetheart Joann (Centuolo), who preceded him in death in 2012. They were longtime residents of Fairfax. Len served in the Army for 2 years from 1957-1959, during which he became a father. He then became a lab technician at DuPont, followed by Hercules for over 30 years. He was active at St. Mary Magdalen Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Len was bigger than life in more ways than one. He loved laughter, food, gardening, Irish Whiskey, and playing Santa at church and other festivities.

Len is survived by daughter Donna Pepe (Michael), and sons Leonard III (Kathi) and Paul (Gillian) Hayward; grandchildren Nicole and Michael Pepe, Leonard IV, Daniel, Kevin and Olivia Hayward, and great-grandson Aidan Hayward.

Thank you to the Heartland Hospice team, especially Tracie, whose support and guidance will never be forgotten for the care of Leonard and Joann.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Tue., Feb. 26 from 6-8 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, and Mass of Christian Burial on Wed., Feb. 27 at 11 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Interment immediately following at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Heartland Memorial Fund, 256 Chapman Rd., Ste. 102, Newark, DE 19702.
