Ann Elizabeth Wilgus, age 73, of Bethany Beach, DE went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
When she was 6 years old, she contracted polio, which left her a quadraplegic. In 1988 she developed post-polio syndrome and required a tracheotomy and a ventilator until her death of respiratory failure.
Ann graduated from Lord Baltimore High School in 1957, the University of Delaware in 1971 with a B.A. in English, and the University of Kansas in Emporia in 1975 with a M.S. in Secondary Counseling. She taught English at Delaware Tech in Georgetown from 1971-1977. In Tempe, Arizona she taught elementary school and had a private counseling practice.
She was the daughter of the late William F. Wilgus, Jr and Zada Walton Wilgus. She is survived by her lifetime companion, Michael Evelyn Remy; her twin sister, Jane W. McCabe; her brothers, Donald L. Wilgus (Jane) and Gerald W. Wilgus (Joan); as well as 11 nieces and nephews and many dear friends who have helped over the years.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 17 at 2 pm at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd, Ocean View, where friends may call after 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Ann's memory to, the Bethany Beach Fire Company, PO Box 930, Bethany Beach, DE. 19930.
