Francis J. Orsini, Sr., 82 of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
Mr. Orsini was born in Wilmington on May 26, 1930, son of the late John J. and Blanche (Falini) Orsini, and received his sacraments at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. A veteran of the United States Army with the rank of Corporal, he proudly served our country during the Korean War and was the recipient of two bronze stars. Upon his honorable discharge from military service, Mr. Orsini became a self-employed mushroom grower in Hockessin, and at the time was a member of the American Mushroom Institute. He later established a business with his sons, Francis J. Orsini and Sons Topsoil. In his retirement years, Mr. Orsini enjoyed attending auctions and conducting his own sales. He was also a race horse enthusiast and enjoyed the races at Delaware Park.
Mr. Orsini is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria M. (Bates) Orsini; his children, John J. Orsini, II and his wife, Rosemary, Denise A. Orsini and her partner, Elaine Przywara, Francis J. Orsini, Jr. and his wife, Cindy Paloni, Renee M. Orsini and her husband, Mike DeMasi and Wayne E. Orsini; his 16 grandchildren and his 13 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, March 25 from 5:00 - 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington on Tuesday, March 26 at 10:30AM. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
