"Betty Ann"

Elizabeth A. (Jones) Donofrio, age 69, departed this life unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. Born on December 21, 1943 in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. Jones, Sr. and Eugenia (Casey) Jones.

Betty Ann graduated from St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic High School in 1961, and graduated St. Francis School of Nursing in 1964. Betty Ann spent her entire 33-year nursing career at St. Francis. She will fondly be remembered as the night shift nursing coordinator. Her last year at St. Francis was spent as head nurse of the Emergency Room. Betty Ann was a devoted professional, and prided herself on being a strong advocate for both her patients and her nursing staff. She retired from St. Francis in October 1997, and went on to be a nurse reviewer for the State of Delaware, but her heart remained with her St. Francis family.

She greatly enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, arts & crafts, and delighted in hosting parties for friends and family in her home. She lived for her family, especially her grandsons and made many sporting events & school activities.

Betty Ann lived her life with kindness, compassion, generosity and unconditional love. Her door and heart were open to all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Francis "Sam" Donofrio; and her lifelong dear friend, Sheila Donahue.

Betty Ann leaves many fond and cherished memories to her three children, John Donofrio (Jenny), Gina Medkeff (Jeff) and Tara Donofrio (Brian Tinsley). She is also survived by her brothers, Edwin W. Jones, Jr. (Tina) and Daniel C. Jones; and her sister and best friend, Janet M. Patterson (Terrence Pennell); as well as her nieces, Danielle DeHart (Joe) and Megan Wealand (Bobby).

She will be dearly missed by the greatest loves of her life, her grandsons, Matthew Medkeff, Cody Manuel, Christopher Medkeff, James Sheldon and "Little" John Donofrio; her great niece and nephew, Chloe and Noah DeHart; as well as a host of family and friends.

A viewing will be held Sunday, May 5 from 3:00 - 6:00PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 6 at 10:30AM at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE.
