Homer W. Coleman

Homer Wilson Coleman of Maris Grove, Glen Mills, PA, passed away on July 9, 2013 after a dignified and courageous battle with cancer.

Homer was born in 1918 in Wiconisco, PA where he graduated from Wiconisco High School. He went to Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA where he received a BS Degree in Chemistry and Physics.

Homer began a career with Hercules Powder Co. (Ashland Co.) in 1940 and remained an employee for 41 years. His career covered all phases of explosives; manufacturing, development, industrial services, domestic sales, management and international distribution. He was active in numerous trade associations; National Limestone Institute, American Mining and Metallurgy Institute and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and Secretary for HETA Corporation for several years.

Homer was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Margaret "Peggy" Griffiths of Kenvil, NJ in 1995; sister, Mae Woods; brothers, Warren, William, and Blair Coleman, all of PA. He is survived by his son Blair Howard Coleman and daughter Laura C. Tuttle and her husband, Robert E. Tuttle, Jr. all of Newark, DE; granddaughters, Amanda Mae Tuttle of Santa Rosa, CA and Heather T. Sklar; and 2 great-granddaughters, Ella Hope and Rylee Margaret Sklar of Middletown, DE; and youngest brother, Conway Coleman of San Bernardino, CA.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Rose Court of Maris Grove, especially social worker Elizabeth Walker, for their personal gracious care they gave him. They also extend a special thanks to Willow Tree Hospice for their special hours of care and devotion they gave him constantly.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 19 at 11 am at Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19803, where Homer was a 50 year member. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Homer's name to American Bladder Cancer Society, 399 Main St., Suite 2B, Dalton, MA 01226-1612, or Concord Presbyterian Church.
