James C. Skilling

James Clark Skilling, Sr, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 with his loving wife, Marie Reader Skilling and family by his side.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland to the late, William and Maggie (Clark) Skilling, he immigrated to the United States in 1958 and became a citizen on June 4, 2009. Jim was a devoted husband and father. He was a diehard Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame fan. He spent over 15 years coaching St. Matthew little league softball as well as the numerous wiffleball games in his backyard. Jim retired from Acme Markets after 40 years. He enjoyed reading and traveling especially Naples and Sanibel Island, FL. Much of his time was spent at the New Castle County Irish Society of which he was a director on the board. He was a proud grandfather and enjoyed attending all his grandchildrens' sporting events and other school activities. He is remembered by his warm smile, quiet ways, willingness to always lend a hand and above all his huge heart.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his step mother Isa Skilling, his former wife Noreen Skilling, his brother Bill Skilling, his sister Helen Bowers, his brother-in-law John Bowers, his sisters-in-law Gobnait Giuliani and Jean Skilling and his grandson Thomas Robinson.

He will be dearly missed by Marie, his children, Sheila Skilling, Donna (Vic) Robinson, Jeannie Skilling, and James (Bianca) Skilling, his grandchildren Annika, Chase, Kylie, Timmy, Reena and CJ. He is also survived by his brother, Sam(Ellen) Skilling of Glasgow, Scotland his brother-in-law and sister-in-law and travel companions Jim and Anne Blackburn, his nieces Lisa (Keith) Call, Gina (Jeff) Giuliani-Oratorio, Karen Blackburn, Patti (Tom) Ptomey, Eleanor(Dean) Baslenkoff-Elder, his nephew Gabe Giuliani, his great nieces and nephews and his additional family in Scotland, Ireland and England.

The family would like to thank Dr. Padmalingam for the many years of care given to Jim. Also to Dr. Kathir Suppiah and the staff of Regional Hemotology at the Helen Graham Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 18 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 301 N. Bancroft Prkwy, Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, September 17 from 6-8 pm at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Thomas Church at the above address.
