Margaret Mary (Dougherty) Sigmund, age 79, formerly of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, October 24, 2013.
Margaret worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Delaware, Foreign Languages and Literature Dept. retiring in 1996 after 21 years of service. Previously she worked at the Keene Corp and U.S. Steel. Margaret loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She would always be ready with a family memory and how it relates to what is happening now. Throughout her life, Margaret maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who witnessed her constant nurturing, love and faith. She enjoyed traveling the world and throughout the United States with her husband Bill.
She was a member and past President of the Ladies of the Delaware Saengerbund and a volunteer mentor at the West Park Place Elementary School. Margaret enjoyed choir, theater, spending time outdoors gardening and vacationing in Cape May, NJ. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church before moving to Maris Grove in Glen Mills, PA.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, William A. Sigmund; mother to William (Nancy), Daniel (MaryAnn), Mark (Marie), Kathy Kamholz (Mark), Matthew (Amy), and Richard (Heidi); grandmother to William, Rachel, Erin, Samuel, Zachary, Matthew, Ryan, Margaret(Maggie), Julianna, Mark and Alexander. She is also survived by siblings Joan McKeegan, Tom Dougherty, Robert Dougherty, Ruth Schweitzer and Daniel Dougherty along with many Nieces, Nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents Pauline and Daniel Dougherty.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2013 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Friends may also visit on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Rd., Newark, DE 19713 from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers contributions in Margaret's memory can be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor- 185 Salem Church Rd. Newark, DE 19713.
