Rocchina "Chine" Leoncavallo Obituary
Rocchina "Chine"

Rocchina "Chine" DeBartolomeis Leoncavallo, age 102, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013 at the Masonic Home of Delaware.

Rocchina's family owned and operated the Latin-American Pharmacy in Wilmington. She was a 1932 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and continued the family pharmaceutical tradition by working as a pharmacist until retiring from the profession at the age of 85. The Leoncavallos opened Park Pharmacy in Woodcrest. Along with her brother, Italo, and his wife, Lea, they also founded Bartley Drugs, the first 24-hour pharmacy in the city of Wilmington. Later, Rocchina opened and managed Pharmacy Services on Concord Avenue. She was the first woman president of the Delaware Board of Pharmacy and was awarded the title of honorary president after completing her tenure. A diligent worker with a great heart, Rocchina was a true pioneer for aspiring female pharmacists, laying the groundwork for other women in the field.

Rocchina is the daughter of Emilia and Silvio DeBartolomeis of Bari, Italy. She is survived by her loving son, Alfred, three nieces, five nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Rocchina is predeceased by her husband, Sid, as well as her sisters, Vera, Martha, and Josephine, and her brother, Italo. She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and Stevens minister.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Masonic Home for the excellent care she received while there.

Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 31, at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1302 W 13th St., Wilmington, DE 19806, University of the Sciences (formerly Philadelphia College of Pharmacy), 600 S 43rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19104, or the Masonic Home of Delaware, 4800 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.
