James H. Houser, Jr.

James H. Houser, Jr. passed away peacefully at his residence at Shipley Manor in Wilmington on November 13.
Jim was born in 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of James Houser, Sr. and Helen (née Dobson). He was a direct descendant of General Israel Putnam of Bunker Hill fame. Jim was proud to be among the first students to attend Archmere Academy. At the University of Delaware he played fullback for the schools football team and earned the nickname "Tank" for his rugged play. He was president of his senior class and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1942.
Immediately upon graduation Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Trained as an aviator he flew PBY's in the Pacific theater through the end of WWII.
After the war Jim returned to Wilmington and married his sweetheart Elaine "Bobbie" Southgate. He began a 30 year career with DuPont where he served in a variety of executive sales positions. Jim loved the Chesapeake Bay area and was a noted decoy collector. A large part of his collection is on display at the Upper Bay Museum in Northeast, MD.
He is survived by Bobbie, his beloved wife of 67 years and his niece Delores of Charlotte, NC.
