James "Tuck" Clendaniel

AGE: 93 • Milton

James "Tuck" Clendaniel, age 93, died peacefully on January 22, 2014, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was residing at the Delaware Veterans Home of Milford. He was known for his smile and his "stories" and his ability to make others happy.

Born on, January 8, 1921 to the late James A. Clendaniel and Emma B. Clendaniel of Milton, Delaware. Beloved husband of 68 years to the late Elizabeth "Lib" C. Clendaniel. Devoted brother to the late Bernice Goldberg of NY. Loving father to the late Lois C. Cordrey and James Clendaniel ll . Tuck is survived by his adored granddaughter, Vanessa Redefer, her husband Justin, his three treasured great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, and Eve Redefer. He is also survived by his dedicated son-in-law, Bill Cordrey and his wife Audrey, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Tuck served as radioman in the US Navy during WWII from January 1942-October 1945. He then worked as a local grocer in his father's grocery store in Milton and proceeded to run it after his father's death. He worked as a Government Food Inspector from 1963- 1983. In retirement, he drove a bus for DAST.

Tuck was a Past Master of Endeavor Lodge 17 of Milton. He and his beloved wife Lib were avid gardeners and their yard was on display many times for Milton's annual garden tour. Tuck was known for his large garden full of vegetables and one would often find his vegetables for sale on the front porch. Tuck and Lib were very active in the community of Milton and their church.

A memorial service will be held 5:00 pm on Friday, January 31, 2014 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware Veterans Home of Milford, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd, Milford, DE, 19963; or Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 307 Federal St., Milton, DE 19968.
