John (Jack) Ferguson

John E. (Jack) Ferguson died peacefully in Georgetown, SC on January 19, 2014. Jack was born in Knoxville, TN on April 26, 1921 and spent most of his adult life in Wilmington, DE. Jack attended the University of Delaware then enlisted in the Naval Air Corps in 1942. He served aboard aircraft carrier CVE Shamrock Bay as Landing Signal Officer in the Pacific.
In 1943 Jack married the love of his life Merle Jeane Willis and was with her until she died in 2006. He served on the Vestry of the Church of The Ascension in Wilmington, DE then as Senior Warden for two years. In 1947 Jack joined the Lavino Shipping Company of Philadelphia, PA. He founded a Lavino Subsidiary, Shipside Packaging Co., and expanded it to four cities on the East Coast. Jack retired as Vice President of Lavino Shipping Company in 1981. Jack and Merle Jeane moved to Georgetown, SC in 1989. He enjoyed boating, fishing and golf.
Jack is survived by his two children, Sara (Andrei) Pashin and John (Cindy) Ferguson. He has three grandchildren, John Robert (Tina) Ferguson, Kelley Lynn (Jeff) Johnson and John Gregory Ferguson. He has seven grandchildren.
Jack will be buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Dover, DE next to his wife Merle Jeane. There will be graveside services for Jack on Saturday, February 15 at 11:30. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
