I was one of the first people to meet Charles in China. Back in our Beijing days, Victor Chong knew he was moving and wanted to connect Charles with a golfer. Instead he got someone who owned clubs, me. Charles was always so humble and unassuming. I was lucky enough to go on a golf trip with him and about 8 guys early on. Charles was the more accomplished of the group that ranged from executive to one kid just out of college. Charles fit in and stayed at the same simple spots as everyone else. Always chill and so nice to everyone, I only learned his nickname of Charlie Roc after knowing him, but I wish Id known it because it is such a great fit. Cool as the other side of the pillow and what always killed us was how darn fit the guy was. One day after golf one of us says damn Charles, thats not fair! as he is all cut and rockin abs and such. Then one of us jumps in and says you remember when you were sleeping in, Charles was down lifting. We all shut it then (I still think of Charles every time I do bench press as he taught me to raise my feet when I do to lower pressure on the spine). Great person, humble, dedicated and never happier than once he reconnected with the Love of his Life, Lisa. God is Great (Brendan Kelly,18 year China veteran and lucky to know Charlie Roc member since around 2002/3).

Dear Lisa,

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I remember when you were dating Charles and how radiant you were when you spoke about him, even though you both were so far away from each other. May God cover you with his comfort and peace during this season in your life.

We love you. We love you. We love you. Charles, thank you for being our first friend in Shanghai. Thank you for bringing Lisa into your life and into ours. The two of you will always be the soul mates we aspire to become. Greedily, we wish you could have been here longer since you were extraordinarily intelligent and kind. Our lives and the lives of our children are forever changed and we thank you. Ok. I'm going to cry now.

Lisa,
In gratitude that you found each other and that you shared so many wonderful and fun times (who else could get you to move to China, of all places!). In gratitude for your strong community of support from friends and family. In gratitude that you wrote your book when you did. And in gratitude for a faith that is questioned, challenged, but never gone. Thinking of you.

CHARLES WAS A CLASS ACT, VERY WELL ROUNDED IN EVERY AREA OF HIS LIFE; WE ALL KNEW THAT THE SKY WAS THE LIMIT FOR HIS ACHIEVEMENTS. HE WAS A REMARKABLE YOUNG MAN. JUST KNOW THAT GOD WILL SEE YOU ALL THROUGH THIS GRIEVIOUS TIME. THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT WEEPING MAY ENDURE FOR A NIGHT BUT JOY COMES IN THE MORNING. AND TIME CERTAINTLY HEALS ALL WOUNDS. REST ASSURE YOU WILL SEE HIM AGAIN, MAY GOD STRENTHEN, COMFORT AND KEEP YOUR HEART AND MINDS STAYED ON HIM......CLASSMATE-DORA BUTLER-WILSON

I've only met Charles a few times but every time i met him he was smiling and always having a good time. Any loss to a family is hard to cope with especially when it happens so fast. I would just like the family to know you guys are in my prayers & Charles is in a better place now. A place where he can look down and protect all that he has touched. Love you guys and we will continue Charles legacy and appreciate each other just a little bit more.

September 29, 2014
