Jane Hickman Gant

AGE: 92 • Wilmington

Jane Hickman Gant, 92, born September 25,1923 in Wilmington Delaware, died peacefully at her home on June 6, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Emmett Stewart Hickman and Ethel Seal Hickman, she was a graduate of Tower Hill School, Lasell College and the Yale University Department of Drama. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Henry Gant, Jr., who died May 14, 2014.

Known as Jimmie, she was an active member of the community. At St. Mary Anne's, she led the team that created holiday decorations for the church. She was a long time member of the All Seasons Garden Club, frequently sharing her flower arranging talent the members. She also enjoyed being a member of the North East Women's Civic Association. Her love of flowers and gardening was especially evident at her home where she had an extensive daffodil garden. She also enjoyed playing bridge and entertaining friends in her home.

Because of her husband's interest, she travelled extensively, choosing destinations for their natural beauty and bird watching.

Jane is survived by her three children Robert Hickman Gant (Candy Davis), Susan Gant Harris (James Dick Harris), and William Stewart Gant (Nancy Fay); six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She

was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Hickman.

Memorial service, conducted by Father John Schaeffer, will be held at St. Mary Anne's Church on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary Anne's Church, 315 S. Main St, North East MD 21901.
