John Bennett of Clifton Heights, PA, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in West Philadelphia, where he met the love of his life, Lucille. Together they shared 58 years in their Westbrook Park home, where they built lasting friendships with neighbors, raised their two sons, and spoiled all of their granddaughters.
John served in the US Navy during World War II (USS Cascade, USS Verdin, USS Abbot) and the Korean War. His 'Band of Brothers', lifelong buddies and fellow veterans, still get together to celebrate their friendship. After his years of service, John established Bennett's Garden Center at Jerry's Corner, 61st and Passyunk, where he spent long, hard-working days over many years beside his son, John and daughter-in-law, Johannah. He was preceded in death by his brother Lou; sister Mary and precious granddaughter, Jacquelyn.
John will always be remembered for his warm, friendly personality and caring nature.

my deepest sympathy to Mrs Bennett, John and Mike and families. Mr. Bennett was a great man and was always nice to us "kids" when we were in the alley. I'll always remember the igloo he built for Mike and Johnny out back when we were all young.
