Charles E. McShane

Charles E. McShane Charles E. McShane, 89, died January 4, 2014 in Beverly, MA surrounded by his family. Born in Lansdowne, PA, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Eleanore (nee Brophy) McShane. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School, Class of 1942, and continued his education earning a Bachelor's Degree from LaSalle College in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 19 and served in the Pacific and European Theaters as a member of the Armed Guard, providing escort and protection to merchant ships around the globe. Mr. McShane had been employed for 37 years at Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Co., rising through the ranks with stops in Philadelphia, PA; Reading, PA, Bridgeport, CT and ultimately Boston, MA in 1968 where he was the Regional Marketing Executive. He retired from Aetna in 1987. A longtime resident of the City of Beverly, he was an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church for 45 years. He was an active volunteer for numerous charities including Meals on Wheels and Elder Services of the North Shore. He was a member of the Wenham Country Club for many years where he once had a "hole in one" on the 7th hole. As a young man he served on the Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Company, an organization in which he was a lifetime member. He was predeceased by his brother the late Thomas J. McShane. Survivors: He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Joan (nee Bullock) McShane, his children Charles E. McShane, Jr. and wife Sherry, of Columbus, OH; Anne McShane Bloomfield and her husband Dennis of Fallon, NV; Michael A. McShane and his wife Maura of Beverly, MA; Mary McShane Bertucci and her husband James of Beverly, MA; 10 grandchidren, one great grandson; sister in law Claire McShane of Lansdowne, PA; brother in law Anthony Bullock and his wife Lorraine of Manchester by the Sea, MA and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral Service: Monday, January 13 at 11 AM at DOYLE-STONELAKE Funeral Home, 85 E. Baltimore Avenue, Lansdowne, PA 19050.
