Roy J. Johnson Sr.

Roy J. Johnson, Sr., 91, Roy J. Johnson, Sr., 91, longtime resident of Folcroft, PA, died March 17th at Wallingford Nursing & Rehab Center. Born and raised in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia, he was a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Johnson served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the liberation of the Philippines, where he received the Philippine Presidential Citation; he also served in Luzon and New Guinea. Along with his wife, he had owned and operated the Johnson Animal Motel in Folcroft. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member and past president of the Norwood Lions Club, where he was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Mr. Johnson was a member of Norwood VFW Post 7213 and the American Legion Post 507, he volunteered for the USO and had served on the Folcroft Recreation Board. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Adair and son Richard, who both who died in 2004. Survivors: His children, Eileen Johnson and Roy Johnson, Jr.. a sister, Diane Muncer, sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: will be 12:noon, Thurs., March 21, 2013, at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill, Pa 19026 where friends may call after 11AM Interment: Arlington Cemetery.
