Ruth Bullard

Ruth Churchman Bullard Community Leader Ruth (nee Churchman) Bullard, 96, died peacefully on April 1, 2014, in Springfield, PA. Born in Oxford, PA, Mrs. Bullard was the daughter of Chester and Anna Mary Brickley Churchman and was sister of Donald Churchman, all of whom predeceased her. In 1935 Mrs. Bullard was a member of the first graduating class from Springfield High School. She then attended West Chester Normal School, now West Chester University. After 1939 Ruth and her husband, Charles Bullard, and their family resided in Morton, PA. They had six children, five of whom are still living. Mrs. Bullard was highly knowledgeable about antiques, which she enjoyed buying and selling. For 50 years, she and her husband operated "Bullard's Antiques" in Morton. She also loved growing plants such as her azaleas, irises, and holly trees. She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for her family. She was devoted to her husband and family but also worked hard for her community. She was instrumental in starting the Morton School Library and worked there as a volunteer from 1957 until Morton merged with the Springfield School District. In 1966 she was appointed secretary to the Morton School Board and then went on to be the secretary of the Springfield School Board. She retired in 1995. In May, Ruth will receive Life Accomplishment recognition from the Springfield Area Education Foundation and will become a member of their Achievers Hall of Fame. Along with her husband, Ruth was a dedicated member of the Republican Party. She was appointed to the Morton Borough Zoning Board in 1964. For many years she served as President of this Board. She retired in 2006. She was a Republican Committee Woman for the Borough of Morton from 1984 until her resignation in 2012. She is survived by Ruth W. Boyle of Moylan, PA; Charles William Bullard (Margaret Greenwood) of Morton; Albert C. (Sandra Martin) Bullard of Milford, NY; Margaret D. (Kenneth Martz) of Springfield, NY; and Mary Ellen Bullard of Chichester, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and a son, Edward Jonathan who died in 1982. Eddie is survived by his wife, Donna Albright of Texas, and his daughter, Cara. She is also survived by 11 other grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, April 5, 2014, after 10:30 a.m. at the Kovacs Funeral Home, Inc., 530 W.
