Michael Worthington Obituary
Born in Philadelphia to James J. and Elvira Fortunato Worthington, where he was reared and educated. Graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School and Temple University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He worked for the Delaware County office of Behavior Health, he retired in 2008.
A veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
Survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary Rose Ewing Worthington; two sons, David Worthington of Wichita, Kansas, and Steven Worthington of Chadds Ford; sister, Carolyn Carr of North Wales, PA; mother-in-law, Felicia Ewing; brother-in-law, Thomas; sister in-law, Teresa Ewing of Linwood; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Brennen of Wichita; two nieces, Alison Ewing of Media and Jessica Ewing of Aston; four nephews, Jason Ewing of Pittsburgh, Thomas of Philadelphia, Gary Kumfort of Pleasanton, CA and Kirk Kumfort Lansdale, PA.
He supported the sons and daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors as a caring therapist who was committed to helping the people around him with a great sense of humor, creativity and spirituality while providing great comfort to all who knew him. He enjoyed music, art, literature and the dogs.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market Street, Linwood, PA 19061.
Calling will be held Tuesday evening after 6 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be private.

I worked with Mike several years ago and he was so helpful when I needed to find placement for people suffering from addiction. He was friendly, professional, and super quick placing people in treatment. He has helped so many people. So sorry to hear the sad news.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Michael's passing this morning. Michael was a wonderful person and a dear friend and colleague. I have very fond memories of many a long conversation with Michael during our time working together at CYS. My deepest sympathies to the Worthington family. Sadly-

Michael was my councelor during the late 70's/early 80's following my involvement in a tragic pedestrian accident and later after the death of my first wife. This past fall,I happened to meet he and Carolyn at a Downingtown movie theater. As we were leaving, I told my fiancee,"That man probably saved my life".I am now the father of 2 sons and 2 grandchildren,myself, and I thank God I was able to share time with Michael during a very critical period in my life.My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this sad time.

Michael has been in our lives since we were kids and losing him has left a huge void. However, what Mike has left behind for us is 50+ years of wonderful, funny and crazy memories to keep him alive in our hearts and the gift of Mary Rose for which we will always be grateful.
