Daniel M. McCray Obituary
Daniel M. McCray (Danny Mac), 49, of Brookhaven, PA left all too soon for the ultimate journey on June 29, 2014. Although Dan was only 49 he lived life to the fullest each and every day and up until his final days, he fought every step of the way like a true Marine and a stubborn Irishman, he never lost his sense of humor. Dan had a zest for life, he was adventurous, never letting anything hold him back. He was a "jack of all ." All who knew him, knew there was always another home improvement being worked on as he took great pride on all his remodeling jobs.
One of Dan's greatest accomplishments was marrying the love of his life Molly. She truly was his sunshine and the two of them brightened any room and together that light produced another ray of sunshine, his pride and joy, daughter Kayleigh. They were the best of buddies and like Dan she is following his footsteps to be an achiever, letting nothing hold her back.
Dan never let obstacles stop him. He was involved in many activities and a member of many organizations. He started the AOH Division 17 of Delaware County. He founded, along with Dawn Jones, "Camp Haven". He was the shop steward of Teamsters 115; he volunteered for Special Olympics; coached the Brookhaven Babe Ruth League; was a lifetime member of Brookhaven Fire Co.; member and Past President of Brookhaven Borough Council; member Upland Marine Corps League; Member of Aston VFW and member of Our Lady of Charity Parish.
Dan was blessed with many talents in his early years. He was a star quarterback for Sun Valley H.S.; he spoke fluent "Gaelic" which he always enjoyed speaking with his family and friends on his deck at the many parties he and Molly hosted. He loved to entertain and other than his deck, he loved to spend time up the mountains at Arrow Head Lakes. He was a singer and when he would sing "Danny Boy". There was always a tear in Molly's eye and a standing ovation. He loved world history and became very knowledgeable. He was known as the 'life line" to call when you were stuck on a trivia question. Dan loved researching the history of Brookhaven and together with his friend and neighbor John Coleman they have a showcase in the Brookhaven Borough Hall where old photos and documents of the borough are displayed. One of his best talents was pranking. He definitely would get the award for "Best Prankster".
Dan was the man if anyone needed something, they knew they could always count on him. He accomplished his work here on earth and made a difference, that is God's goal for each of us. Dan did that everyday, and all who knew him will never forget that. He was loved by all . We cannot take material things with us when we leave but we can take love and that love we carry will shine forever. To keep Dan's spirit alive in all of us, please do as he did. A random act of kindness will make a difference.
