Eilleen L. McElwee

Eilleen L. McElwee, 90, Beloved Wife, Mother, And Grandmother Eilleen L. (nee Sweeney) McElwee, 90, beloved wife of 66 years to Daniel J. McElwee,Sr., of Media, Pa., and a former long time resident of Drexel Hill, Pa., passed away on Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013, at the Lima Estates in Media. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth (nee Mohan) Sweeney and the late James J. Sweeney. She was a homemaker and a former employee for over 20 years of the Social Security Administration before her retirement a few years ago and she was a parishioner of Saint Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church in Media for the last 10 years, and a former long time parishioner of Saint Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Drexel Hill where she and her husband were married, and raised and educated their children. Eilleen enjoyed traveling and spending summer vacations at the Jersey Shore, but her biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family who will always remember her as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors: In addition to her husband she is also survived by her children: Mary Gallagher of Princeton, N.J., Eilleen Lauersen (Fred) of Arlington, Va., Daniel J. McElwee, Jr., of Lafayette Hill, Pa., Kathleen McAnally (Kevin) of Drexel Hill, Pa., and her Daughter-In-Law, Anne Marie McElwee, of Drexel Hill, Pa., and her 8 Grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, the late Joseph J. McElwee and her siblings. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eilleen's Life Celebration on Saturday morning, July 27, 2013, from 10:00-10:45 AM, at Saint Mary Magdalen R.C. Church, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, Pa., 19063, and to participate in her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in the church. Interment: will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa. Contributions: Eilleen's family has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory be made to the Melmark Charitable Foundation, 2600 Wayland Road, Berwyn, Pa., 19312, which would be deeply appreciated by her family.
