Eugene W. Hinkle Obituary
Eugene W. Hinkle, 82 Of Media Eugene W. Hinkle, 82, quietly passed away at his home October 25, 2012. Born in Delano, PA, he was a resident of Media more than fifty years. Mr. Hinkle graduated from Delano High School in 1948, earned a Bachelor's Degree in music from West Chester University and a Master's Degree in music from Temple University. He also took music courses at Westminster Choir School. He was a member of the National Association of Music Teachers and the American Guild of Organists. He served as organist and choir director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wallingford for 40 years, retiring from that position in 2008. He taught choral music for the Rose Tree Media School District for 30 years and while there directed the chorus and orchestra for many of the school's musicals. Another venue for his musical skill was the Inn of the Four Falls where he accompanied the singers of the dinner theater as they performed "The Fantastiks." Mr. Hinkle also taught private piano students and lauded Franco Rossi as his best student ever. As a member of the Marine Corps during the Korean War, he was stationed on Guam and during that tour of duty played church services for both Catholic and Protestant personnel. Mr. Hinkle liked socializing with his friends and colleagues, sharing lunches and dinners with them in his home or theirs, or at various restaurants. An excellent cook, he enjoyed hosting frequent dinner parties. His other sources of pleasure were attending Philadelphia Orchestra concerts, plays at the DuPont and Media Theaters, collecting and listening to CDs of classical and popular music. In the summers he traveled to Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Rehoboth DE was another favorite place. Pre-deceased by parents Ethel and William Hinkle; brother William; sister Ruth; sons Donald and Eric. Survivors: His daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Tom Bell; their children Max, Katelyn and Kyle; his nephew Wilson Hinkle and his wife June; his nephew William; nephew Kenneth Adams and his wife Linda; his cousin Shirley Morgans; devoted friend Matt Polignone, Fred Keller, and countless other friends. Memorial Service will be 11 AM Saturday, November 17th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 927 South Providence Road, Wallingford, PA 19086.
