Foster Rufus Blagman Obituary
Foster Rufus Blagman (Topsy), 91 Foster Rufus Blagman (Topsy), age 91, of Chester, drifted quietly into eternity on Thursday, July 4, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. Born May 4, 1922, in Colonial Beach, Virginia, he came to Chester at an early age. He was one of 13 children born to the former Eloise Smith and her husband Rufus Blagman. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and served honorably in France and Germany where he was wounded and received the purple heart. After the war, he returned to his job at Sun Oil Co. in Marcus Hook where he worked for over 42 years. Topsy's hobbies included fishing, pinochle and baseball. As a young man he played in the Negro Leagues for the Philadelphia Stars. He is preceded in death by his youngest son Anthony E. Blagman (Potts) and his grandson Anthony E. Johnson (Doc), as well as eight of his siblings. Survivors: He leaves to cherish his memory his very devoted long time companion Ms. Louise Harper; his three sons: Foster Neal Blagman of Aston, Ronald D. Blagman (Lorraine) of Brookhaven, Larry L. Blagman of Tacoma, WA; one stepdaughter Ms. Ethel I. Handy of Chester; and four of his siblings: Alberta Scott, Beatrice Nichols, Florence Fowler and Albert Blagman. He is also survived by his former wife Ms.Mary Neal Blagman, 3 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral: will be held Thursday, July 11 at Temple Baptist Church, Seventh & Butler St., Chester, PA. Viewing: is 9 am - 11 am and the service will begin at 11am. Burial: will be at Chester Rural Cemetery. Family will assemble at 2 Stuart Drive, Aston PA.
