Jethro Nelson Akins, Sr. Jethro Nelson Akins, Sr. was born on May 28, 1930, in Raleigh, North Carolina, "Jeff" was the oldest of seven children born to Annie Mae Johnson. Jeff grew up in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated from West Philadelphia High School. He was drafted into the military, serving in the United States Army during the Korean War honorably discharged in 1953. Jeff earned his living as a professional truck driver. In January 1972, Jeff married Janet Frances Miller. One year later they moved from Lansdowne, settling down in Morton where they remained for their 41 years of marriage. In 2009, Jeff decided to run for public office and won a seat as a member of the Morton Borough Council where he was co-chair of the Public Facilities Committee. He loved serving his community as a council member and was re-elected in November 2013. Jeff was a lifetime VFW member and also Prince Hall Mason. Survivors: His wife Janet, son Jeff Jr., daughter Fonda, daughter-in-law Stephaine, son-in-law Sidney Holmes; grandson Rodney, Jr. (Twanesia), great-granddaughters Devante and Shyla, great-grandson Rodney III, sister Madeline and Linda, brother-in-law Preston Miller, sister-in-law Geraldine Johnson and Naomi "Sue" Edwards. Services: Will be held Friday, December 27, 2013, Wesley AME Church, 232 Bowdon Ave., Swarthmore, PA 10a.m. Viewing: 8-10a.m. at church. Interment: White Chapel Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA
