John Paul Olinick Obituary
John P. Olinick John Paul Olinick passed away on July 26, 2014 at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Chestertown. John was 77 years old. John was born in Upland, Pennsylvania growing up in Eddystone, PA. And later moving to Wallingford, PA. He was born on December 3, 1936, the son of Joseph Olinick and Martha (Zakorchemny) Olinick. John was a Boy Scout, where he attained the rank of Life Scout. He also was a counselor at Camp Philmont in the Valley Forge Council. John was graduated from Eddystone High School, Class of 1955, where he lettered in football, basketball and track (throwing the shot put and javelin). He became a cadet at Pennsylvania Military College in the prep program, matriculating into the pre-dentistry program. In response to his love of the outdoors he continued his career with carpentry, rough framing and meticulous finish work. He built custom homes, restored and remodeled existing homes in Chester County Pennsylvania. John joined the Army reserves in 1960 and was called to active duty through August, 1962, with the 324 Medical Depot for the Berlin Crisis. John served as cook for his company. He was with his seven "army buddies", Bob Tiehel, Billy Crist, Jack Dougherty, Robertson "Trooper" Rushton, Eddie Birtwell, Jimmy Graham and Tom McHugh. It was his friendship with Tom McHugh that ultimately brought John to Chestertown. In December, 1965, he met the love of his life, Camille, and they were married in October, 1966. While living in Grand Oak Run Development he was the Santa Claus for thirty years, delivering special gifts to residents on Christmas Eve. After 44 years of living in West Chester, PA .he retired and moved to Chestertown. He loved his friends, neighbors, crabbing, fishing and boating and to be with his family. John is survived by his loving wife, Camille, children, Christopher Olinick (Danna) of Chestertown, Tim Olinick (Pam Duke) of Chestertown, Grandchildren,, C. John and Lauren Olinick, of Chestertown, Step grandchildren Drew Kuechler of Chestertown and Erek Lane of Annapolis. Sister, Martha Olinick and John Pessagno of Glen Mills, PA, Sister-in law Carol Baker and Susan Boardman of Boalsburg, PA John's life will be celebrated later in the year in Chestertown. He had numerous physical problems and his hope was that by donating his body to science more could be learned about his maladies. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Limestone College, Athletics Capital Campaign Fund, in memory of John P. Olinick, 1115 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340.
