Lawrence, 'Larry,' Coker, Jr., age 78 Lawrence, 'Larry,' Coker, Jr., age 78, Chester native and long-time resident, passed away peacefully, in his home in Wilmington, Delaware, early Tuesday morning, September 10, 2013. Also known as 'Sam," to his many friends, he was educated in the Chester Public Schools; a proud member of the Chester HS, class of 1953; an honors graduate of Cheyney University, formerly Cheyney State College; and served four years in the U.S. Navy. A 1993 retired teacher from the Upper Merion Area School District after almost forty years of service, Larry worked for Delaware County as a bus driver for Senior Citizens for ten years. For over 25 years, Sam was the weekend bar tender at Carter's Cafe; an avid Eagles fan, he enjoyed playing golf and baseball and was active in the Community. He was voted into the Chester 's Sports Black Hall of Fame for his role in community baseball; a member of the Elks-John A Watts Lodge, #224; the American Legion Post 300 for 41 years; the Linwood Lodge #87; Charles E. Gordon Consistory, #65 and Minaret Temple, #174. Larry loved his family and his friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Reverend and Mrs. Lawrence and Dorothy Coker. Survivors: His wife, Sandra; two sisters, Joan Broome and Selena Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Mercedes Lee (Lewis) and Marlene Dryden (Arnold); two brothers-in law, Herman Holloway, Jr. and John Holloway; four daughters, Laurie Reid of Atlanta, Ga. (Reggie), Dr. Joan Coker, Julie Coker Graham (Daryl), Ayesha Coker of Atlanta; step-daughters, LaVonne Coker and Sherri Brown of Atlanta, Ga. (Christopher); grandchildren, Christopher, Cheris and Carlie, Brown of Atlanta; step-son, Raymond Wilson, III; two goddaughters, Mary 'Peaches ' Payne and Shayne Miller; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His life celebration: is planned for Saturday, September 14, lOam, Temple Baptist Church, 736 West 7th Street, Chester. Viewing: 8am-10am, Masonic service, 9:30am.
