Maria Elisa Mirarchi Obituary
Maria Elisa Mirarchi, 86 Maria Elisa "Bella" Mirarchi, 86 died peacefully in her sleep on January 30, 2014 in the comfort of her loving daughter Caterina Ramoni's arms. She was also surrounded and comforted by her loving family: Caterina's husband Vincent Ramoni, her grandchildren, Christa, Michael and USMC LC Steven, Jessica, and great- granddaughter Vanessa Maria Ramoni. Maria treasured and loved her grandchildren endlessly, and she felt blessed and so very happy to know and spend time with her new great-granddaughter Vanessa Maria Ramoni, who became her special treasure as well. Maria's grandchildren called her "Grandmom Bella." Maria would also call people she cared about "Bella," which is Italian for beautiful. "All of my life, my mom was an angel by my side", said Caterina. "The most selfless, beautiful, kind, considerate woman you could ever meet." Maria was a woman of great faith in God, and she had a special devotion to Saint Padre Pio, Saint Francis of Assisi, Jesus, and the Blessed Mother. She often spoke about the vivid dreams that she had of Jesus. It was her strong faith in God that gave her the strength to love life and love others. Maria's greatest passion was spending time with her loving grandchildren, cooking special Italian delicacies for them and teaching them the secret generational recipes. She really enjoyed watching funny movies and love stories. Maria loved musicals and enjoyed going to musicals with Caterina and Christa. Maria was born in Isca Sullo Ionio, Catanzaro Italy where she met and married her sweetheart Leopoldo "Tony" Mirarchi, who recently died on June 12, 2013. They were married for 67 years. As a young couple, they settled in South Philadelphia with their young children. Maria often spoke about her lifelong dream to become a school teacher; however, her father took her out of school at an early age to work on the farm in Italy. She fulfilled her own dream and became a teacher to all by teaching others about Italy, how to speak Italian, about Italian Saints, and about life. She had a heart of gold and she enjoyed cooking for and feeding everyone. Maria was an active member of Stella Maris Church in South Philadelphia where she opened her home every year for the Annual Feast of Saint Marziale celebration.
