Mary Hitchcock Obituary

Mary H. Hitchcock, 88 Mary H. Hitchcock, 88, died June 1, 2012 at Taylor Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, she was raised in Narberth, PA and was a resident of Lansdowne for the past 46 years. Mary was a graduate of Lower Merion High School and was Assistant Librarian at the Overbrook School for the Blind for 15 years, retiring in 1996. She was the widow of Harry E. Hitchcock Sr. who died in 1995. They had been married 49 years at the time of his death. Mary was a member of St. Philomena Church, a Girl Scout volunteer, a member of the Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary and served as a Tour Guide at Elfreth's Alley. Mary also helped train dogs for the blind and belonged to a prayer group at St. Cyril Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. In addition, she was a volunteer at Delaware Co. Memorial Hospital for over 15 years. Survivors: Mother of George R. (Martha) Hitchcock, Sheila M. Hitchcock, Harry E. (Nancy) Hitchcock Jr., Mary Ruth (William) Watkin, William E. Hitchcock and Julia E. Hitchcock; sister of Kay Vanderhout; Aunt of Brian Steinkomph and Andrea V. Murdoch; dear grandmom of 10 and great-grandmom of 13. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 10:30 AM St. Philomena Church, Baltimore & Highland Aves., Lansdowne. Visitation: Family and friends may visit 9 AM until Mass time. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Overbrook School for the Blind, 6333 Malvern Ave., Philadelphia, Pa 19150 would be appreciated. Condolences: www.doylestonelake.com
