Matthew E. Sharpless Obituary
Matthew E. Sharpless, 85, of Cape Coral, FL, left for Heaven on March 26, 2013 from his home.
He has gone on to be able once again to dance with Shirley and newly walk in the Light of Jesus' love. Born to the late Matthew and Bertha Sharpless, Sr. in Chester, PA, He met and married his wife of 63 years where they settled in the Brookhaven/Aston area for many years.
Prior to relocating in Cape Coral, Fl., he resided Wilmington for several years. Matthew was supervisor for FMC in Marcus Hook for 29 years and later worked in Security at CCMC for 16 years retiring in 1994. Matt and Shirley also had two business ventures: Matt's Cold Spot ice cream parlor in Brookhaven and Matt's Cold Spot at Booth's Corners Farmer's Market.
He served as a Township Commissioner for Aston's 5th ward, serving 4 year term in the mid 1960's, he was a past member of the Republican Men's Club of Aston, past member of Parkside Methodist Church and Cape Coral United Methodist Church in Florida where he served as Vice President of the Methodist Men's Club. After his graduation from Media High School in 1946, he joined the Army serving during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dowd Sharpless who died in June 2012, a brother Harold Sharpless and a sister, Dorothy Sharpless.
Survivors: Daughter, Sandra Parkerson, 3 grandchildren, Rachel McGheel, Joshua and Katie Baker and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services: Saturday, April 13, 2013, 12 Noon, at Siloam United Methodist Church, 3720 Foulk RD., Garnet Valley, PA Graveside.
Services: Military internment at 2:30 p.m., at Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery.
