Matthew R. Battinieri Obituary
Matthew R. Battinieri, age 88 Matthew R. Battinieri, age 88, died August 5, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Matthew was a longtime resident of Chester and parishioner of St. Katharine Drexel Church. He retired from Allied Chemical in Marcus Hook, PA. Proudly served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, Matthew honorably fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. Matthew was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Life seemed to revolve around both his children's and grandchildren's sporting events which he never seemed to miss. He was an avid Phillies fan and coached in the Chester East Little League for more than 30 years, serving as president of the league for many years. After his many years of coaching, Mr. Battinieri and his wife, Fran, were often seen as spectators at various Delaware County softball games. Matthew is preceded in death by his wife Fortuna "Fran" (Antonelli) Battinieri who died in 2006 and his siblings: Thomas, Ralph and Neil Battinieri and Marie Klovensky. Survivors: His children: Mark (Jackie), Guy (Jacci), and Paul Battinieri (Carol); his 6 grandchildren: Mark, Adam, Matthew, Jamie, Brittany and Kyle; and 2 great-grandchildren: Julia, Briella, and soon to be Brynley and a great grandson Visitation: Monday morning, from 9:15-10:15 at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 20th St. & Providence Ave., Chester. Funeral Mass: Monday at 10:30 at St. Katharine Drexel Church. Burial: Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield. Donations: Alzheimer's Disease Association: www.alzheimers.org.
