Nancy Foehl Obituary

Nancy M. (nee Merrill) Foehl Office Manager and Community Volunteer Nancy M. Foehl, 64, of Media, PA and Galena, MD, succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Sunday, July 21, 2013 following a courageous 15 month battle. During that time she never lost her compassion and caring for others, taking strength in her faith and making it easier on all those around her. Nancy enjoyed reading the Bible cover to cover each year, a discipline she pursued for over thirty years. She applied her faith in serving her community. She was active in her church as President of the Board of Deacons, as a member of the pastor search committee and prison ministry program of First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and, later as a member of Vestry, co-chair of the Adult Christian Education Committee and a worship leader in Shrewsbury Parish, in Kennedyville, Maryland. She, together with her husband, Gene, founded, operated and led presentations for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Presbyterian Expression of Marriage Encounter for almost ten years. Nancy was particularly pleased that several of the cub scouts in her den went on to be Eagle Scouts, including her son, Chris. She also served as a volunteer fiscal officer for Unity Center, Inc. and handled the finances of many small, local non-profit groups. She worked alongside her husband, Gene, and daughter, Erica, to provide assistance primarily to residents of Chester, PA in various programs such as after-school, summer, high school senior week of service, high school internship, establishing computer labs and reading, as well as the Chester Upland Youth Court and other similar activities. She participated in establishing the Foehl Foundation to further support local charitable activities. Nancy was an avid reader, graduating with a B.A. in English from Hood College, in Frederick, MD in 1970, after attending Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, MA. She loved her time working in Media and enjoyed her second home along the Sassafras River on the eastern shore of Maryland during all seasons of the year, which also served as a youth and church retreat center. She was employed as a systems analyst in INA and Western Savings Bank in Philadelphia and Mutual Benefit Life, in Newark, NJ. She also served as the Office Manager in the law practice of Gene A. Foehl and Associates and Foehl and Eyre, P.C. in Media, PA over the course of several decades. Survivors: Her husband of 41 years, Gene A. Foehl, her children, Erica Foehl Weihermuller and Christopher Foehl, two grandchildren, Gemma Weihermuller and Ethan Foehl and her sister Marni Hoyle, of Charlestown, MA. Her parents, Bushnell Darby Merrill and Helen Cadden Merrill, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, predeceased her. Memorial services celebrating her life: Will be held at Media Presbyterian Church, in Media, PA, Monday, July 29, 2013 and at Shrewsbury Parish, in Kennedyville, MD on Saturday, August 3, 2013, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., a service at 11:00 and a reception following at the church. Nancy has donated her body to the medical school associated with the University of Pennsylvania. Condolences to the family and donations in her memory may be sent to: Unity Center, Inc., at 27 E. Front Street, Media, PA 19063 or through the website, www.unitycenterofpa.org.

Erica, David and Gemma,
I am so sorry about your mom. She was always gracious and considering of everyone. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and friend to all she came in contact with. Nancy will be sadly missed by all.
