Taylor Merwin Obituary

Taylor H. "Mike" Merwin Of West Chester Taylor H. "Mike" Merwin, 66, of West Chester, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. He was the husband of Aletha H. Landers, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. Born in Delaware County, he was the son of the late Ramona T. Bustoz Merwin and the late Joseph H. Merwin. Taylor was a 1965 graduate of West Chester Joint High School and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion #1, receiving 3 medals for his service. After Vietnam, Taylor was a past Commander of The American Legion Post 134 of West Chester and a past 8th district Deputy Commander. He was a self-employed building contractor in West Chester for over 40 years, and later an ICC certified building inspector for East Goshen Township until his retirement in 2013. Taylor was an honest, helpful, and humorous man with a strong work ethic and high personal standards. He enjoyed nature, cooking, sports (Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State football), gardening, playing Santa Claus, woodworking, and anything related to construction and architecture. He loved his family and he adored his granddaughters. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Taylor is survived by his three children, Aletha H. Barney (Robert), Michael D. Merwin, Marc D. Merwin (Malory), his granddaughters Ireland Rayne Merwin and Wednesday Hope Merwin, his siblings John Merwin, Jack Merwin, Florence Ruby, Ramona Saldutti, Vickie Gambs, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers William and Joseph Merwin, and his sister Mary Merwin. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Mike's Life from noon to 4 p.m., with a brief ceremony at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Days Hotel West Chester-Brandywine Valley, 943 South High Street, West Chester, PA 19382. In lieu of flowers: Please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Mike's memory. Interment: Will be private.
