Walter L. Kollar Jr.

Walter L. Kollar, Jr., 59 Walter L. Kollar, Jr., 59, of Newtown Square, formerly of Springfield, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 26, 2013. He was employed for 36 years by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in South Philadelphia. Walter was a 1972 graduate of Springfield (DelCo) High School and a 1977 graduate of Villanova University. He spent many active years with the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 1972 and was an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 315 at St. Anastasia RC Church. A lover of choral singing, he sang for 20 years with the Delchordians, a Barbershop Chorus. Walt was a member of Community Lodge #744 (F&AM), LuLu Temple (Shriners), and most recently had begun the early work of the Scottish Rite. He spent time riding with the Yamaha Star Touring & Riding Association (Valley Forge Chapter #326). Additionally, he rode with the Widow's Sons (Vulcans Forge Chapter) a Masonic motorcycle riding group. As a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Broomall, he served as an usher, Lay Assistant, and was Chairman of the Administrative Council. Survivors: His wife of 35 years, Maria (nee Calafati); son Erik, of Newtown Square; daughter Kate Chambers (Andy) of Townsend, DE; brother Robert (Joann) of Coatesville; sister Martha Malina (Stuart) of Harrisburg; a niece and two nephews; and his mother, Roberta (Robin) McCoy Kollar of Harrisburg. Services: Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2220 South Sproul Road, Broomall, PA, 19008. All are invited to a Masonic Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary; followed by a visitation hour at 10:00 a.m. and Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers: Donations may be sent to St. Mark's UMC Memorial Fund, at the address above or Shriners Hospital for Children-Philadelphia, 3551 N.
