Alfred J. Wolanin Sr.

Alfred J. Wolanin, Sr. Alfred J. Wolanin, Sr., on March 14, 2013 of Media, formerly of Erie. Born in Sharon, Pa. on May 27, 1924, son of the late Casimir and Aniela (Tokarska) Wolanin. Alfred graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1942 and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Assigned to the USS New Mexico, he was present at the battle of Okinawa and in Tokyo Bay on the day of the Japanese surrender. A graduate of St. Francis College, Loretta, Pa., he was the Business Manager of Alliance College in Cambridge Springs for 29 years. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance, Lodge 1540, Cambridge Springs and the Polish National Alliance Lodge 2005 in Erie. He was the Director and President of the Alliance Home of Erie for five years. As President of the East Side Federation of Polish-American Societies, he initiated the Sister City Program with Lublin, Poland. Alfred was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 4121. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years Mary R. (nee Sekowski), his sister Laura Ceraolo and his grandson Todd Ankrom. Survivors: his children Dr. Alfred J., Jr. (Mary Beth), Newtown Square, Richard A. (Lorie), Kennett Square, Mary Ann Wolanin-Desser (Daniel), Virginia Beach, Katherine J. Wolanin-Keyser (Gregory), Havertown and Dr. Casimir M. (Suzanne), Newtown Square, his 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Service: Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass Wed., 11:30 A.M., at St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010. Inurnment: to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
