Catherine Berry Obituary
Catherine "Denise" (Maher) Berry, 74 Catherine "Denise" (Maher) Berry, 74, of Clifton Heights, passed away February 13, 2014 in her residence surrounded by family. She was the spouse of John J. Berry, married for 53 years. Born in Lansdowne, she was the second daughter of Charles Maher and Catherine (Hart) Maher. Denise graduated from St. Cyril's grade school and West Catholic High for Girls in 1957. She also attended St. Joseph's University. Denise taught grade school at Our Lady of Fatima in Secane, St. Denis in Havertown and was a substitute at Holy Cross and several other archdiocesan grade schools before she became a full time homemaker. In 1984 she went to work full time at Apple Vacations until retiring in 2001. Denise was a member of several organizations. She was a past president of the Holy Cross Women's Club, a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, as well as several other organizations. She was also very active in the Philadelphia area Irish community. Surviving: In addition to her spouse, John, are her five children, Maureen E. (Joe) Connors, E. Michael (Diane) Berry, Brian (Jessica) Berry, Sean B. (Sarah) Berry, and Marykate (Scott) Roney; 14 grandchildren; sister, Margaret Kincaid; and brothers, David Maher and Charles Maher. Viewing/Service: 5-9 p.m., Friday, February 21, at the O'Leary's Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA. There will be a short viewing starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, February 22, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Bishop Avenue, Springfield. In lieu of flowers: Donations can be sent in memory of Denise Berry to: c/o Maryknoll Sisters, P.O. Box 317, Maryknoll, NY 10545- 0317. Checks should be made out to the Maryknoll Sisters.
