Dorothy 'Dot" Saylor, 94 Dorothy E. (nee Stickel) Saylor, of Aldan, passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Born on April 5, 1919 in the Swampoodle neighborhood of Philadelphia, Dot was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Heinrich and Emilie (nee Kuriger) Stickel. An avid swimmer, Dot, was a summer lifeguard at the Philadelphia City pools during her teenage years. One pool in particular was the Kelly Pool, where she taught Jack Kelly and his sister the future Princess Grace of Monaco to swim. After graduation from high school, Dot, was a fixture at the Central Branch YMCA in the Conservatory of Music and Art, and later went on to teach swimming and physical fitness. She worked at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard during WWII, where she met her husband Luther. They were part of the logistics and planning team that built the Battleship New Jersey. Dorothy and Luther were married 63 years. Dorothy was proprietress of Dorothy E. Saylor Social Consultants, which arranged and directed hundreds of weddings, social engagements and charity events for Philadelphia and Main Line clientele. Dot was a devoted member and instructor with the YMCA, well known through the community for teaching health and fitness. She was the premier teacher of Yoga and Tai Chi in the area, a career that spanned 42 years. Dorothy was an avid swimmer; a seven time Gold Medalist with the Delaware County Senior Olympics, and a two time Gold Medalist with the Pennsylvania Senior Olympics. Dot was an active lifetime member with the Republican Women of Pennsylvania and the Hannah Penn House, raising money for charities. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, and the Aldan American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was predeceased by Luther, her beloved husband of 63 years, in 2004. Survivors: She was the loving mother of L. Douglas Saylor (Darlene) of Snow Shoe, Dorie Brossette and Linda Saylor of Aldan. Loving grandmother of Veronique and Stephanie Brossette and Letitia and Paul Saylor. Memorial Service: Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Friday, June 21, 11:00am, at Christ Lutheran Church, 7240 Walnut Street, Upper Darby, PA 19082.
